Here’s what you need to know about using the Crunchyroll app on your Nintendo Switch™.
How do downloads work?
If you’re a Mega Fan or Ultimate Fan member, you can download episodes and even full seasons to your Switch to watch offline! Just:
- Log in to your Crunchyroll account on the app.
- Select a video.
- Tap Download.
Is there a limit on downloads?
No, there is no set limit on how much you can download. But your device’s storage space determines how much you can store on your device at once.
Do I need a microSD™ card?
We strongly recommend one. Downloads can take up a lot of space. If you don’t have a microSD™ card, content saves to your Switch’s internal storage. If there isn’t enough space, you’ll see an error.
Where are downloads saved?
- If a microSD™ card is inserted, downloads go there.
- If not, they go to internal storage.
Can I watch while downloading?
No. Downloads pause while you’re watching a video. They will resume when you stop playback and the app is open.
What happens if the app closes or the Switch goes to sleep?
Downloads pause if the app is closed or the device sleeps. They’ll resume when you reopen the app with internet access.
Where is the Crunchyroll app supported?
You can download the Crunchyroll app from the Nintendo eShop in:
- The Americas
- Europe
- Middle East
- Africa
- Australia & New Zealand
It also works in 200+ countries where Crunchyroll is available.
Can I set parental controls?
Yes! You can use your Switch’s Parental Controls app to limit how long a user spends watching Crunchyroll on the Switch.
- Learn more about setting up Parental Controls.
To restrict the type of content available to watch in Crunchyroll, use the Content Restrictions feature within Crunchyroll. These settings are managed on a profile-by-profile basis within Crunchyroll and cannot be controlled through the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app.
Because the Switch does not support multiple profiles, be advised that it will automatically use the primary account profile, along with its Content Restrictions settings.
Can I watch mature content?
By default, mature content is blocked. To enable it:
- Log in to Crunchyroll on the website or the Crunchyroll mobile app. (Content Restrictions cannot be edited in your account settings on the Nintendo Switch.)
- Go to Settings > Preferences.
- Enable Mature Video Content.
Does Switch support multiple profiles?
At the moment, the Switch does not support multiple profiles. The settings will pull from the primary account holder.
How do I stop my Switch from dimming or sleeping during playback?
Adjust your Switch’s Sleep Mode settings to extend or turn off Auto-Sleep. See Nintendo Support for step-by-step instructions.
With Crunchyroll on Nintendo Switch™, you can take your anime wherever you go, download, watch, and enjoy your favorites on the move!
