Having trouble seeing subtitles while watching on the web? Try this list of quick fixes!
-
Turn off your VPN
-
VPNs aren't supported. They can cause subtitle to disappear or even make multiple sets of subtitles overlap.
-
-
Use Incognito mode
- Open your browser in private window or Incognito mode. If subtitles show up there, it may be a browser add-on that's causing the issue. Try turning them all off, then turn them back on one by one to find which one is causing the issue.
-
Update or switch browsers
- Make sure your browser is up-to-date with the latest version. If subtitles still don't appear, try opening Crunchyroll in a different browser. If it works in another browser, reach out to Crunchyroll Support and let us know which one gave you trouble.
-
Try a different device
- If subtitles don't show up while watching on your computer, try using a different device. There are tons of ways to watch Crunchyroll, including mobile devices (phones or tablets), game consoles, Smart TVs, and streaming devices. Check our list of compatible devices here.
- If the subtitles are missing everywhere, it may be an issue with the episode itself. Please let us know so we can get you and other fans back to streaming!
-
Turn off extensions
- Extensions like ad-blockers may interfere with Crunchyroll. Turn them off and see if that helps.
If none of these suggestions work, chat with Crunchyroll Support! Make sure to let us know all the juicy details, such as:
- Which series and episode you're having trouble with
- Your browser and browser version
- The country you are logging in from
We’ll work with you to get subtitles back so you can keep watching happily! ٩(>ᴗ<)و

Why don’t I see subtitles on English-dubbed episodes?
If you’re watching a dubbed (English-voice) version and don’t see subtitles or captions, that’s expected! Here’s why and what you can do:
Why this happens
Subtitles usually appear only on the subtitled (sub) versions of anime. When you switch to an English-dubbed episode, closed captions aren’t always available since the dialogue is already in English.
What you can do
- Watch the subtitled version of the episode, subtitles will appear there.
- If you see an English CC option on a dubbed episode, you can try turning it on. Some titles include captions for accessibility.
- If captions used to appear and recently disappeared, don’t worry! This is often a temporary delivery issue. Once it’s fixed on our end, they’ll show up automatically again.
Why aren’t English subtitles available for some shows?
Subtitle availability can vary depending on licensing agreements in your region. If you don’t see English subtitles for a certain show, it’s likely because the rights for that version aren’t included in your country’s streaming license.
We’re always working to make more subtitle options available worldwide, thanks for your patience while we expand access.
If captions are missing or not working as expected, reach out to Crunchyroll Support, with the episode title, language, and where you’re watching from, we're always happy to help!
Why aren’t subtitles or dubs available in my language?
Subtitle and dubbing options can vary depending on your region. Some shows may not have subtitles or dubbing in every supported language because of licensing agreements.
If you don’t see subtitles or dubbing in your language, it usually means that version isn’t available for your country right now. We know how important language options are, and our team is always working to expand them wherever possible.
Thanks for your patience while we continue to grow our library worldwide!
