Certain local regulations require users to complete age verification before creating a Crunchyroll account or accessing restricted (19+) content while in South Korea. This requirement applies to all users accessing Crunchyroll from South Korea.
Verification is performed through a third-party identity verification service (via SMS and PASS) and requires Korean identity credentials recognized by the Korean verification system. SMS age verification requires a validly issued Korean phone number.
If you don't have the required credentials to complete this process, you won't be able to verify your age and therefore won't be able to access restricted content while in South Korea. This is a common experience for visitors to South Korea who don't have required verification credentials. However, if you have an existing Crunchyroll account, you'll still be able to access non-age restricted content based on your profile’s content restriction settings.
Is there an alternative method to verify my age and/or watch restricted content?
No. Crunchyroll is unable to manually verify a user's age or provide an alternative verification method, as age verification must be completed through the process required under South Korean law.
What about my content restriction settings when I’m traveling through South Korea?
Your profile's content restriction settings won't be affected if you're unable to complete the Age Verification process. However, you won't be able to watch 19+ content without Age Verification, regardless of your account settings.
