Picture in Picture, also known as “PiP”, is an innovative way to watch anime in the iOS Crunchyroll app. With this feature, you have the ability to tap a button, starting a ‘mini-player’ and enabling multi-tasking! In other words, if you’re watching an anime from one of our archives and want to look up the soundtrack without pausing your episode, PiP allows you to do both at once!
What devices does PiP work on?
This feature is available on iOS devices, but currently unavailable on our Android app.
Is PiP avaliable for all users?

How do I start PiP?
While in the video player, you can simply tap the PiP double box icon at the top of the screen, to the left of the Airplay icon. You can place the small version of the PiP player in any quadrant of the screen, and the large PiP player can be pushed to the top or bottom of the app screen.
Can I background the Crunchyroll app and use other apps or text while PiP is active?
Most definitely! You have the ability to multitask with the use of PiP, meaning you can browse the Crunchyroll app while looking for more content to watch, add shows to your watchlist, or even start an entirely new episode. This powerful way to watch anime supports multiple functions at the same time!
What size is the mini-player?
PiP supports three sizes: small, medium and large, which will span the width of the app screen. To increase and decrease the size of the player, you can double-tap the window or pinch the screen.
How do I stop PiP?
There are two ways to stop the player:
- Tap the close button (x), in the upper left corner of the screen, which will close the player completely and keep you in your current position on your device.
- Tap the PiP icon on the right side of the screen, which will return you to the watch page.
