If you recently purchased a membership or product from the Crunchyroll Store, you may notice a surprising charge on your billing statement. In most cases, this is a preauthorization charge—a temporary hold placed on your debit or credit card to verify that funds are available before completing a transaction.
How does it appear?
- Preauthorization charges usually appear as a pending transaction on your bank statement.
- While the hold is active, those funds are temporarily unavailable for other purchases.
- Once released, the pending charge will disappear automatically and the amount will not be debited from your account.
How long does it last?
- Debit cards: The charge usually drops off within 8–14 business days.
- Credit cards: It may take up to 30 days, depending on your issuing bank.
How much is the charge?
The amount of the preauthorization charge is typically $1.00 or the amount of the subscription plan you are trying to purchase.
Why can’t Crunchyroll remove it manually?
This process is completely automated by banks and payment processors. Crunchyroll does not have the ability to manually remove or speed up the release of these temporary holds.
