It can come as a surprise when you find yourself experiencing video playback issues on your LG Smart TV, especially when you’re halfway through your favorite anime! We’re equipped with a number of solutions that just may do the trick:
Check your internet connection
First things first, you should make sure your TV is connected to a stable internet connection. You can do this by checking other devices connected to the same network or running a speed test on your TV.
- If you have connected to a wired network, check the LAN cable, router, and socket on the wall for any issues.
- Remove the LAN cable from the TV and test the connectivity by connecting it to your PC.
- Turn off your router, wait for 1 to 2 minutes, turn it back on, and check the connection again
- Plug the LAN cable into another port in the router and check the connection again.
- Unplug the LAN cable from Port 1 and plug it into Port 2.
If your wireless connection shows a signal strength of two or fewer bars:
- Move the router as close to your TV as possible.
- Turn off your TV and then router, turn them back on, and try connecting to the network again.
- Do not cross the router antennas.
Restart your TV
Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues.
- Turn off your TV
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Update the firmware
To fix possible video playback issues, you should ensure that your LG Smart TV has the latest firmware installed. You can check for updates in the TV's settings menu.
- Update firmware on WebOS 4.0 or 4.5:
- Go to Settings > All Settings > General.
- Select About this TV.
- Select Check for Updates.
- If an update is available, select Download and Install.
- WebOS 5.0, 6.0, 22:
- Go to Settings > All Settings > Support.
- Select Software Update.
- Select Check for Updates. If an update is available, select Download and Install.
- Once the download is complete, power OFF the TV for 10 seconds, then power ON to install the update.
Clear cache and cookies
Clearing the cache and cookies on your TV's web browser can help resolve playback issues. Go to the web browser settings and look for options to clear cache and cookies.
Check app updates
Go to the app store on your LG Smart TV and check for any available updates for the Crunchyroll app.
Uninstall and Reinstall the Crunchyroll app
- In the TV menu, highlight the Crunchyroll app in the launcher, then press and hold the [OK] button. An [EDIT MODE] window will appear. Click [OK].
- Select the app again, click the [X] above it, and click [YES] to remove the app.
- Once the app has been deleted, go to the LG Content Store to install it again.
- In the Content Store, enter the app name in the search bar. Click on it in the results, and click on [INSTALL]. You will see the app appear in the launcher.
Accept the user agreements
- Please note, not all features will work if you haven’t accepted the user agreements.
- For WebOS 5.0 and higher, go to [SETTINGS] > [ALL SETTINGS] > [SUPPORT] > [ADDITIONAL SETTINGS] > [USER AGREEMENT].
Check HDMI or other connections
If you're using external devices like a gaming console, make sure the HDMI or other connections are secure. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the cables to ensure a proper connection.
